Filled with emotions and memories, hundreds of people packed into Bates Memorial Stadium Friday night for the Enterprise Wildcats’ last regular season football game in “The Hole.”
Former football players, alumni, former band members and fans filled the stadium to witness the historic game and bid farewell to a stadium full of memories for more than 50 years. The 2010 Wildcats’ team will be the first to play in and begin making memories in a new stadium on the campus of the new high school currently under construction.
More funds for the project were presented Friday night in pre-game ceremonies as Ronnie Gilley of RG Entertainment and the BamaJam Music Festival presented checks totaling $113,500. Family members of Jimmy Bowden and Bo Harrell, both of whom have memorial foundations in their memory, assisted in presenting the funds to Enterprise City Schools Superintendent Jim Reese and Enterprise High School Principal Rick Rainer.
This is the second year the donations have been made in memory of former Enterprise High School graduates Harrell and Bowden.
Reese and Rainer said they are looking forward to Enterprise High School students having a permanent place to call home next year.
“Our high school students and the faculty have been through a lot since the 2007 tornado,” Reese said. “It’s a final goodbye tonight for a lot of memories of Bates, but we’re looking forward to all of the memories we’ll make at the new high school.”
The new Enterprise High School is slated to be completed in early June 2010.
